I'm Rory.

I'm from Ireland and I moved to England in 2011.

For over ten years I worked in London as a journalist, writer, producer and newsreader for channels and stations including ITV, ITN, BBC, BBC Radio, Times Radio, Virgin Radio and TalkTV.

My podcast Inspireland, covers personal stories including mental health, trauma, addiction and social justice to highlight the power of resilience, hope and healing.

I'm a member of the Board of Trustees of mental health charity North Kent Mind. My mission is to help others in their healing journeys.

I have lived with mental health challenges including depression, anxiety and OCD. In 2023, I finally faced my childhood trauma and began my healing journey.

I'm a writer, sharing essays, short-stories and poems centered around the joys and challenges of our shared human experience. I've also written an unpublished novella.

I'm a realist, so life isn't full of happiness. I think that's a dangerous way of trying to be as it's a constant search for something that is only meant to be momentary. But I'm content. I have peace. And I now value contentment and peace over happiness.

A bit more about me...

I was born in Ireland and grew up in Hilltown, County Down, a small rural village at the foot of the Mourne Mountains. It's a magical place and one that I'm lucky to call home.

At 18-years-old, I moved to London to study journalism and lived there for nine years before moving with my husband to live in a small rural village in Kent, England.

For over ten years, I worked in London as a journalist, producer, writer and newsreader for channels and stations including ITV, ITN, BBC, BBC Radio, Times Radio, TalkSPORT, TalkTV and Virgin Radio. Storytelling is at the core of everything I do.

My podcast, Inspireland, covers personal stories including mental health, trauma, addiction and social justice to highlight the power of resilience, healing and hope.

In 2023, I confronted my mental health challenges linked to childhood trauma and other traumatic experiences. I was living with depression, anxiety and OCD to name but a few. I had become an expert at hiding my symptoms from others and escaping my own pain. I reached out for help and I began my healing journey. I now manage my body, my mind and my life in healthy ways. It doesn't mean that everyday is full of joy and happiness but it does mean I have the tools to find joy even amongst the darkness. I am a survivor, not a victim.

In 2025, I joined the Board of Trustees of mental health charity North Kent Mind. My mission is to now help others in their healing journeys.

I love to read and write. I find both equally cathartic. I share essays, short-stories and poems on this site and on Substack.

My soul resides in the countryside. I love my husband. I love my mum. I love my family. I love my friends. I love country music. I love nature. I love gardening. I love baking. I love homemade cake. I love cooking. I love chickens. I love farms. I love creating a home. I love being cosy. I love meditating. I love old books and bookstores. I love antiques. I love strong black coffee. I love peace.
