Tik Tok

Don’t you feel like it’s all too much?

The velocity of life like a treadmill with the settings too high Constantly moving,

but going nowhere.

Doing,

Making,

Rushing,

Running,

Cleaning,

Eating,

Working,

Repeat.

No time for him,

No time for her,

No time for them,

No time for time,

No time

What is time?

It’s just moving from one hour to the next,

dragging you along with it

Constantly on

Constantly available

Beep

Another Whatsapp

Beep

Another notification

Someone invites you to a party that you don’t want to go to

You’ll decide later

In the meantime,

scrolling,

for distraction of course

Another of life's twenty minutes lost

Shit,

you forgot to eat.

It’s Christmas

No more food in the fridge

Leftovers,

gone

Cheese,

gone

Chocolates,

gone

Ah don’t worry,

you grab your phone

Scroll again

Lower onto a kitchen bar stool

scroll,

scroll,

scroll

The clock hands that you don’t have just tick on by without awareness

Dopamine oozes through brain like blood through veins

It’s the new blood

It’s what keeps you alive

But it’s not,

you see

It’s killing instead.

Killing time,

Killing conversation,

Killing connection,

Killing love,

Killing spirit,

Killing being.

Tick tock,

tick tock,

the hands of the clock continue to knock

But you choose not to listen

You don’t let time in

You choose the sound of silent scrolling

It’s quieter

More bearable than life

Tick

tock

Tik

tok

The clock ticks on,

your life is gone.
